Bergen County Art Scholarship, through 3/15
High school seniors in Bergen County have a new opportunity to get a $1000 cash scholarship as they move into their college careers.  The Skyline Theatre Company (STC) is now offering The Harry K. Berkheiser Jr. Scholarship, named for New Jersey educator and founding STC member Harry K. Dialogue with Steel & Reflections on Traditions, through 4/18

How We Live Now: Picturing Everyday Life in Children’s Book Illustration, 12/5-5/23
The sometimes chilly realities of modern-day life take on warmth and verve in 35 original children’s book illustrations by Catherine Stock, Roger Duvoisin, E.B. Lewis, and more.  Works mirror the social themes and subjects of contemporary culture as depicted in children's books from 1960 to the present day.  Books will be on display in the exhibition, which has been drawn from the Zimmerli Museum’s collection of Original Illustrations for Children’s Literature. Hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 am to 4:30 pm, and Saturday -- Sunday, noon to 5 pm; first Wednesdays of each month September through July, 10 am to 9 pm. Backyard Birder’s Club, 1/13-5/19
Plant the seeds for a lifelong passion when you introduce your child to the wonders of bird watching. Students in grades 3 through 5 are invited to join experienced birder, Deborah DeSalvo in an after-school program to get up-close and personal with the birds that live in our backyards. Each class will include a lesson, guided hike, and a bird-related game or activity. Absecon Lighthouse 153rd Birthday Celebration, through 3/17
Absecon Lighthouse, New Jersey’s tallest, will host a celebration to honor the 153rd birthday of the Lighthouse on Friday with birthday cake and free climbs to the top.  Come, sing Happy Birthday, and climb to the top to see Atlantic City’s original light that is “always turned on,” Absecon Lighthouse! Then bring the kids for a brand-new series, “Kids Light Up The Arts,” beginning on Sunday.  In an effort to promote the visual and performing arts to children, we will be offering special 2-hour art classes from 1pm – 3pm on Sunday afternoons, through March.  This premiere series will collaborate with local artists, performers and crafters to educate and encourage kids to create their own works of art, culminating with an Art Show so our students can display all of their hard work.  Classes will be featured in mosaics, theatre & puppetry, painting & watercolors, and other disciplines. 1 p.m., 31 S. 11th Annual Phyllis Noar Puppetry Festival, 2/21
The puppets are back! The Eleventh Annual Phyllis Noar Puppetry Festival begins in February. Chinese New Year celebration, 2/13
Entertainment and activities will include a traditional dance ceremony with The Greater Philadelphia Minghui School Dance Team. Also, the Zhao Changjun Kung Fu Institute of Moorestown will perform a martial arts demonstration. The Peking Opera will perform songs, dances and martial arts-like movements. The group will wear authentic Chinese costumes, along with distinctive make-up as it relates to the performance. The library will also offer a variety of activities. Fit for Cancer, 2/13
Participants can choose one of five programs which include: a 3-hour Spin for Cancer--a high-energy, indoor stationary cycling program where the instructor takes participants on a "virtual" outdoor road race, a 3-hour Boot Camp--which will combine cardio and strength training, a 3-hour Biathlon, swimming and running workout, a 3-hour Zumba dance and fitness workout or a 3-hour Senior Water & Walk class. Monmouth County SPCA Valentine's Brunch, 2/14
